True North Hougang Community Scouts Group was formed under the counsel Mr Eric Low Siak Meng BBM, Advisor to Hougang GROs. It will be the first scout group based in a Community Club and formerly recognized by the Singapore Scout Association.

Working closely with the Hougang Community Club Youth Executive Committee, True North hopes to foster stronger community bonding the scouting way and promote greater interaction between the Scouting movement and the community at large.

Hougang Community Club (CC) Art Club
The Hougang CC Art Club was formed in Aug 1985, led by our Art Advisor, Mr Chuan Keng Boon. Its members largely comprise of people from all walks of life.

Our aim is to promote the residents' interest in art and enhancing their art appreciation level. We contribute to the well being of the constituency's cohesiveness by bringing residents together to participate in community activities.

Since the founding of our Art Club, we have constantly pursued our goals through a series of activities, which include Talks and Seminars, Publishing Art Magazines, Gatherings, Participating in Community Club's Activities e.g. Fund Raising, Participating as judges for children's art competition in the C.C. and R.C. We also support the Chinese Cultural Festival by organising art exhibitions.

The club organises courses in the CC and welcomes all to join. Our courses run in cycles of 12 lessons, and aims to impart knowledge on art through the perspective of Chinese painting and Calligraphy. Courses are conducted in mandarin.

Radio Control Power Boats Club
What is RC Boating?

R/C boating is a hobby where model boats, sometimes scaled down from their life size counterparts, are run (and often raced) via radio control (henced, "R/C"). There are many forms of R/C boating, including sail, electric, steam, gasoline and nitro powered.

The objective of this Club is This Club intends to bring information about R/C Boating to everyone who has an interest in the hobby, at the same time to equip members with the necessary skill needed to build and run their model boats safely and successfully. The aim of the Club is to foster good sportsmanship and camaraderic through model boat racing. The Hougang R/C Power Boats Club is a non-profit organization.

The Club conducts the operation of running of model boats at Ponggol Park (Beside Bliss Restaurant) every Sunday from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

Each member shall automatically become a member of the district in which he resides.

The Radio Control Power Boat Club registration charges are $75.00 per year.
Renewing members: $50.00
Family member under 18 years: $20.00 Discounted

Social Dance Club
This Group was formed in 1993 when there was a need to perform for the local Senior Citizen Night. Ever since that first performance, the group has grown from strength to strength from 6 people to the current 30 people. They had also been called upon to perform at Culture Performance at the Park Series in 1999, Cultural Expression Chingay 2000 and 2001; Public Performance during the Total Defence Carnival 2001 as well as President Charity Danceathon in 2002.

The group is also responsible for organizing the successful "Hougang Dance Bonanza" series in Hougang Community Club since 1999. This annual event is organized with the sole aim of promoting and introducing dancesport to the general public at a affordable price.

The core element that keeps the group together for so many years is the strong comradeship amongst members in addition to the strong leadership of the two founders. The group also organizes BBQ and festival get together to enhance comradeship.

FUTURE PLANS

This non-profit making group that is under the charge of YEC in Hougang Community Club hopes to achieve:
a) Continue to organize the "Hougang Dance Bonanza" Series.
b) Continue to perform for People's Association if there are any needs.
c) Introduce dance sport to the neighboring residents; especially through Primary, Secondary schools and
Junior Colleges.

 

Ballroom Dance Club

Formed by a group of Senior Citizens in the year 1999. The group has experiences in all kinds of ballroom dances. It provides a form of excercise for the members and make known to everybody that dancing is not only for the youngsters.

 

Line Dance Group
The line dance group was formed in October 2002. It aim is to provide and introduce line dancing to the residents. The group has organised line Dance Nite sometimes in December last year which attracts 200 over of participants.

The motto of the group is to promote healthy lifestyle both Adults and Children.
